In the Swahili language, ‘mkunga’ means midwife. Since I spent most of my childhood in East Africa, I don’t just call myself a midwife, but also an mkunga.
I would love to get to know you and the latest addition to your family, assisting you in the variety of changes you are going through during pregnancy and postpartum. I will take your questions and concerns seriously, using my professional knowledge and experience to assist you as needed.
I grew up in Tanzania and Kenya because my parents were missionaries there. I became fascinated with the area of midwifery because my dad was often called upon to drive women in labor to the hospital if they needed urgent medical assistance during childbirth. I loved his stories of babies born in our car!
Once I got to Switzerland I pursued my dream and earned a BSc in midwifery from the Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften (ZHAW Winterthur). I’ve been working in this profession with passion and enthusiasm since 2014.
I am married and have three daughters (2015, 2018, and 2020). I love spending time with my family and if I have a peaceful moment, I enjoy reading a good book.
Your and your baby’s health and wellbeing are the focus of my home visits after the birth of your baby. I will support you as you get to know your newborn and his/her needs, as well as assist you if he/she initially struggles to breastfeed.
The postpartum care visits are covered by your (standard Swiss) health insurance.
You may contact me by phone, WhatsApp, Threema or Email. I would be very happy to pay you a visit so that we can get to know each other.
